COVID-19 Update for ARCH Cutting Tool Customers – Revised 3/23/2020

Dear Valued Customer,


As concerns regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus continue to be at the forefront of our minds, ARCH Cutting Tools would like to share what we are doing in response to the outbreak.


The health and safety of our employees is of utmost importance to us, as is our uninterrupted service to our customers. Please be assured that we are closely monitoring developments and implementing multiple safety precautions within our company to ensure that we are doing everything possible to mitigate this risk.


In accordance with CDC guidance, ARCH is asking employees to:

  • Suspend non-critical travel
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer
  • Practice cough etiquette
  • Practice social distancing
  • If feeling ill, seek appropriate medical care and stay home to avoid infecting others


In addition, we have taken the following steps to ensure the continuity of our business operations by sharing best practices across sites for risk mitigation plans that include but are not limited to:

  • Eliminating shift overlaps where possible and staggering breaks
  • Identifying key processes/employees to develop back up plans in case of absences
  • Implementing good guidelines for enhanced cleaning of high traffic areas
  • Restricting visitors to our facilities (including suppliers and customers) to only those individuals who have a compelling need and who have demonstrated/certified that they are not a risk of transmitting coronavirus to our workforce


Finally, given the industries we serve, ARCH Cutting Tools falls under the essential manufacturing exemptions as defined by the Department of Homeland Security.  As such, our operations will remain open to serve our customers.  Additionally, given ARCH’s broad domestic manufacturing footprint (10 Cutting Tool production locations) we are in a strong position to have back-up/supplemental manufacturing capabilities for many products should the need arise.

ARCH Global Precision Announces the Acquisition of Siem Tool Company

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, June 21, 2019. ARCH Global Precision (“ARCH”), a Jordan Company platform company that is focused on manufacturing precision cutting tools, precision machined components and medical implants and instruments, has acquired Siem Tool Company (“Siem” or “Siem Tool”), located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Siem Tool is a manufacturer of customized solid carbide drills, end mills, reamers, thread mills and form tools. Siem Tool will join ARCH’s Cutting Tools division.

“We are excited to announce the acquisition of Siem Tool, as this acquisition further expands ARCH’s custom cutting tool product offering and deepens our bench of in-house technical application engineers who have a long history of successfully working with end users to develop custom tooling solutions. In addition, Siem adds ARCH’s first captive coating center that can be leveraged across the organization, plus Siem’s in-house coating infrastructure can accommodate further expansion in this area,” commented Jeff Cederstrom, ARCH Global Precision Divisional President of Cutting Tools. “The acquisition of Siem Tool supports our ongoing strategy of creating a market leading custom tooling provider through the “ARCH Specials” brand and product offering. ARCH Cutting Tools Focuses on Education Partnership to Solve the Talent Shortage, and Hunts for the ‘Purple Squirrel’

ARCH Cutting Tools is facing the same talent shortage as the cutting tool industry overall, but the company is meeting the challenge with an aggressive workforce development strategy aimed at millennials & gen z. In partnership with Delta College, ARCH Cutting Tools hosted an Introduction to Machine Tools Forum at its Flushing, Michigan facility on June 6, for five students interested in careers as machinists.

ARCH Cutting Tools is building an organization-wide structured training/apprenticeship program, based on practices that have been in operation for years. The pilot program in Flushing will be duplicated at other ARCH Cutting Tools facilities in other communities throughout the U.S. in the coming months.

Jeff Cederstrom, President – ARCH Cutting Tools, a Delta College alumnus opened the event with a brief introduction of the company and its products.
“To build tomorrow’s workforce, you have to be willing to provide the solution to today’s talent shortage,” he said, explaining the ARCH Cutting Tools commitment to training and education.

The Flushing facility is home to Ultra-Dex, an ARCH Cutting Tools business unit and Beamer Laser Marking Systems; presenting the participating students with information on career paths in precision machining.

The Ultra-Dex portion of the forum was hosted by Gregg Bishop, General Manager – Ultra-Dex. Bishop explained the various skills and disciplines that are critical in today’s machining environment including familiarity with manual Bridgeport machine operation to develop foundational industry skills up to and including programming CNC machines.

The Beamer Laser Marking System portion of the forum, hosted by Allen Warren, Engineering Manager – Beamer Laser Systems, provided perspective on the manufacturing of fiber laser marking machines for a variety of industries. Focusing on the product offerings of standard, engineered and inline machines, Warren provided details on engineered solutions. Bishop joined the conversation with details of how the laser marking systems provide enhancements to manufacturing operations that improve through-put and productivity.

Throughout the forum, the Delta students were provided demonstrations and hands-on experiences, as well as opportunities to put direct questions to the industry experts.

So, what is ARCH Cutting Tools looking for? Ultimately – the “Purple Squirrel.” That is, the ideal young machinist with natural ability, an eagerness to learn and improve, and an eye on the future of the industry. Reflecting the need of such qualified candidates, the participating students also learned that compensation continues to increase for machinists who demonstrate the necessary adaptability and skill development.

Throughout the forum, Cederstrom and Terry Morse, Associate Professor – Business and Technology at Delta College, who accompanied the students, discussed ways to work together more closely and to drive the message of the opportunities in manufacturing for young CNC Machinists and Programmers.

Personnel Announcement – Marcus Ralston, Director of Product Management – Standards

marcus ralstonARCH Cutting Tools is pleased to announce and welcome Marcus Ralston as Director of Product Management – Standards. Marcus is responsible for business development, brand integration, sales forecasting, marketing initiatives, and customer relationships for the KEO Standards, Richards Microtools, Ultra-Dex and KEO Milling Solutions product lines.

Throughout his career of more than 20 years, Marcus has focused primarily primary on developing and implementing strategic sales and service models, effective channel management, customer advocacy and direct marketing implementation.

Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Business Development for Harvey Performance, where he was responsible for sales growth and for the coordination of the operations of Sales and Application Engineering, Custom Solutions and Customer Service. Marcus also worked as an Application Engineer with Kennametal, where he partnered with R&D to refine tool geometry, conduct beta testing and to create technical content for a wide range of successful solid carbide cutting tool designs in milling, threading and hole-making across the organization’s 20-brand portfolio.

A veteran of Desert Storm, Marcus served 14 years in the U.S. Army. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern New Hampshire University with a B.S. in Organizational Leadership and he also holds a diploma in Nuclear, Biological & Chemical Defense from the U.S. Army Chemical Defense Institute.
